New Mexico's version of the Smokey Mountains



Taking the backroads we ended up going through the little Village of Reserve.

Cool place  and several of the building caught my eye.

In small towns, one merchant is everything from hardware to prescriptions and groceries and even car parts.


I asked Sherm if he wanted to eat at Ella's, he did.

Cool place, great food!

Looks like Aunt B from Mayberry is making pickles again.

Just a word to the wise. :)

It's amazing how beautiful just a bunch of old rocks can be.

I told Sherm there was a bear in the back right of that cave.

When we were approaching the VLA, I told Sherm that each one was over an acre in size. While they are quite large, I may have embellished that figure a bit.


They are supposed to be listening for radio messages from aliens or something like that.

So far we've had beautiful weather but those thunderheads are looking more ominous the closer that we get to them.

I was really lucky to get this picture of Pancho Villa just after he made the crossing.

I asked him how he was able to cross the deep rushing waters.

Unfortunately he just said "No speaka Ingles"

I sent him back across, but later on I saw his headlight behind me again.

I'm used to big lava flows in Oregon


Up there there are pine trees growing in the flows, down here, ocotillo cactus.

Once in awhile I find a motorcycle amongst them.

I like chicken fried steak, but this is the third time in my last four meals. I only had it because I let the server choose my meal for me. He did good!


In life, there are two ways to become famous.

You can be notoriously horrible like Billy the Kid, or notoriously smart like Einstein.








As we were leaving the cemetery, Billy great grandson showed up to pay his final respects.

Mike and I headed out today for Rockies Gold and decided to visit Kolob Canyon on the way to meet some friends in Cedar City, UT. It's a beautiful canyon....... .......when you get to see more than just a mile and a half of it. Unfortunately the road was completely washed out from recent rains. On arrival everyone started catching up with each other, or was that text messages? The next day we all headed up to Cedar Breaks. Rocky and I were in sport mode. :) These signs make me breathe harder for some reason. The crew is taking in the sight from the viewing platform. Some for the first time. I decided to take Hwy 142 west from Goldendale, WA and passed this place. I think it was a museum of some sort. There were lots of views of both Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood along the way. This one is Adams. This picture was taken of Mt Hood at the same place that I took the previous picture of Adams. Hwy 142 follows the Klickitat River until it flows into the Columbia It is famous for both it fishing and white water kayaking I'm not sure if these are early Foxglove or not, but they were plentiful and beautiful The City These first time kayakers are getting their instructions. It was actually quite comical watching them, but it was all serious business to them. The water chutes that form in the river become more frequent and impressive the closer you get to the Columbia. The kayaker and motorcyclist love it. I totally expect plenty of screams if they actually make it to this section. I pulled into this rest area. These guys pulled in right after me. On my way to Death Valley I stopped to check out the stream flow in Burro Creek and snapped a picture of my bike and the bridge. Not sure if the dam that forms this little lake on Burro Creek is manmade or natural. Most or the year there is little or no water flowing out of the lake, but it is running pretty good today. Shortly after leaving the campground I almost hit a mile stone. A mile later, I did.
